SOUND THE ALARM!! Spring is officially on its way!! (Ok ok, winter is still hanging on, but we still need to pack up all our winter shit, buy some trendy clothes and bring on the spring vibes.) Also, I’m dead broke because I’ve been allowed out in the world again, so I’ve spent my fashion funds on tacos, wine, and seven dollar coffee.
Anyway, this spring is going to be so much fun for NYC fashion. I can feel it in my bones. There are tons of new trends happening and I can’t wait to try some out. Some that I’m psyched about? Y2K and 90’s throwbacks AND WESTERN STYLES. Are you kidding me!!!! Just take all my money!
With that being said it’s really hard to keep up with new trends. Especially when your on a budget. I know I need to watch my pennys but I literally NEEEEEED face gems for this spring season, OK?
If you’re like me, someone who loves to try the new trends, but need to stay on budget — I got you boo! I am the self proclaimed queen of dupes and the slayer of sales. (IDFK — it just came out.) I’ll show you some budget friendly ways to snag some spring trends so you can stay kewl and still save up.

First Ballin’ on a Budget Tip:
GO TO THE THRIFT STORE. No, the spirit of the person that died in the blazer currently on the rack is not going to haunt you, Cindy. I pinky promise. Thrift stores the best place to find really good clothing staples. Especially now with all the throw backs coming back into the fashion world. This is probably your best bet. When I go thrifting I always try and look for dupes of name brand styles. You can even find a name brand quality piece for way less then you would get it in the store (duh thrifting). Always look out for handbags, belts and accessories at thrift stores. You can find literal gems (cue Julia’s UnCut GeMs voice) if you look hard enough.
Here are some NYC thrift shops to check out:
  • 10 ft Single by Stella Dallas, Williamsburg Brooklyn
  • Beacon’s Closet, Greenpoint Brooklyn
  • L Train Vintage, Several Locations
  • AuH20, East Village
  • East Village Thrift Shop

Second Ballin’ on a Budget Tip:
Now don’t kill me for this one…Walmart. Yes, I fucking I said it. Wal *clap* mart *clap.* I know, I know, “but small business and the planet!!” I’m with you! I’m really not trying to be a asshole. I try and shop small and sustainably literally every chance I get! Sometimes it’s hard to shop small though, especially when you’re watching your wallet. I only recommend Walmart because they have super affordable spring dresses and shoes. A lot of name brands like BCBG are launching low budget lines for them. Oh God this is getting worse as I type. Listen, I’m not saying dump your savings into the place, but deff have a looksy. I totally recommend splurging at local boutiques for items that you will have forever. Fast fashion makes me cringe too, I get it.

Third Ballin’ on a Budget Tip:
RE-PURPOSE YOUR SHIT. (Go back and read my article about this for some inspo!) If you’re in your thirties and hang onto every piece of clothing you’ve had since jr high…you’re in luck. (If not, I guess go to fucking Walmart). Go back to mom’s place and raid your old closet. I’m talking the faux fur spice girl scrunchies, clear purple sunglasses, and all your weird ass bucket hats and, yes, the velour jump suit. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph especially the velour jump suit. This spring (I’m totally predicting this heading into summer) Y2K fashion is coming in hot. Like really hot. And that’s going to be especially the case in a fashion capital like New York City, For us elders it’s super easy to re-live this trend. We know what works, OK? We know the low rise jean game, you little tots out there. Good luck.

Fourth and Final Ballin’ on a Budget Tip:
Rent trendy clothes. Yes. Rent them. Trends come and go so quickly. It’s really easy to waste money on things that might never ever come back. I mean Y2K is back so who the fuck knows anymore. I still think this is a great budget friendly option. Especially if you’re not into fast fashion. This is a great way to re-use and re-purpose clothes and accessories. You can check out Rent the Runway. I have never personally tried this, but I know a few people who have and they love it! I looked at their website and they have a $69 a month option for 4 pieces of clothing (breaks down to 17 a piece). Now, that’s not bad. There’s no time limit on returns and if you love what you get, you have the option of buying it. I think I’m going to try it. Should I? Hmmm. I smell an experiment/article coming up…..
That’s all I got this month!
