Breaking News! Anthony Edwards going on script in hand all weekend in Girl from North Country

The GOOSE from the North Country

The buzz began in whispered tones around the noisy Café Un Deux Trois next door to the Belasco theatre where the Tony nominated Girl from the North Country is enjoying a renaissance after reopening this month and scoring seven Tony nominations. Anthony Edwards is going to go on, script in hand in the show tonight! Wait, back up. What’s happening?

The new strain of covid, however mild, has sidelined another actor then his understudy and the busy tight knit ensemble had run out of people to play Dr. Walker. It’s a cool part, he’s kind of the narrator of the story, if there’s a role to do with the script in hand, that’s definitely it. Mare Winningham, the lead in the play, (she’s awesome by the way, as is the very “vibey” moving show.) Mare is married to Anthony Edwards, (Dr. Green from the ER! Goose from Top
Gun! GOOSE!)

She called him at their home in Connecticut and he drove down, rehearsed for an hour and the audience got a real treat. A legendary actor winging it on Broadway with his real-life wife. People were elated as they poured out of the Belasco and word is he was even off book for some scenes.

Come on, man that’s what live theatre is all about! Anthony Edwards will be filling in for Dr. Walker all weekend. Once word gets out, I wouldn’t be surprised if the show sells out.

Take that, Clooney.

Girl from the North Country has extended to June 19th.

Scott Brooks

Born and raised in a small town in Massachusetts, Scott has lived in New York City for more than twenty years. A degree in theater led down many paths from a gig as a top 40 DJ, to film and television production. He also managed to write several plays and get some of those on stage. He has had a handful of screenplays optioned or produced along the way as well. Most recently, Reality Sets In – a comedy web series about being newly single in the city. His proclivity for the arts led to a slew of survival jobs from tour guide to the inevitable years in hospitality where he prefers to bartend in fancy restaurants and five-star hotels, if he must do it at all. His first novel, based on his experiences at the intersection of hospitality and show business, And There We Were and Here We Are is available on Amazon Kindle and in paperback. He also just finished the travel tip book; 50 Things to Know Before You Go to the Theatre in NYC, which is also available on Amazon. He is an avid reader and proud father.
